The Guru Appears When The Student Is Ready
An experiment with the medium of AI leads to an interesting encounter.
An aphorism has been hanging in my head lately that has proven significant to my spiritual path, "The guru appears when the student is ready." This phrase is significant to my path because it primarily applies to how I found Terence McKenna on YouTube during a vulnerable and tumultuous time in my life around 6 years ago. Primarily it applies to Eastern traditions and yogic paths in particular, although we all know my path has never done well at obeying sharp cultural divides.
Because I was thinking about it, I decided to punch it into Midjourney alongside Terence McKenna, with fairly standard results:
I was doing this while I was out buying more cannabis of course, and on the bus ride home, a young man in his 20s or 30s was getting off at the same stop, and since he was going out the back exit of the bus while I was going out the front, I had to kind of swerve to dodge him. He had the same general appearance of McKenna, curly brown hair and beard, and he was also wearing a trilby.
I noticed he was playing the same game of Frogger that I was, rather than walking all the way to a crosswalk which would've been a few minutes, we were both jaywalking to get to our street. We silently did this for about a minute before we were able to successfully cross, and I quickly realized that not only was he living fairly close to me, he was living in the exact same cul-de-sac. I became self-conscious that it looked like I was following him, but at some point he disappeared before I could see exactly which house he lived in.
